SOLAR

The Sun is an active, turbulent and interesting subject to observe, but it needs to be done safely.

NEVER look directly at the Sun, either naked eye or through unprotected optical equipent.  You can use purpose-made filters which are attached to the objective end of the telescope.  As well as protecting your eyesight, these protect the tube from the heat of the Sun.  They need to be checked carefully for damage each time before use.  Both types are to be found below.  They enable you to keep track of sunspot activity, which can be done on a daily basis.  They can also be used for solar eclipses and planetary transits.
