CAPRICORN 70 (EQ1) REFRACTOR

!

This attactive blue-tube refractor is a good way to start in astronomy.   Its 70mm (2.75") aperture is

one of the traditional sizes for an adult's or teenager's first telescope and it has 36% more Light Gathering power than a 60mm.  The equatorial mount enables you to track objects easily.  At the same time it is small and light enough to be easily moved to different sites.

The Capricorn's focal ratio is 12.8 and this gives nice crisp images of the Moon and planets.  It comes with two multi-coated eyepieces -10mm and 25mm; and a 2x Barlow lens.  These give magnifications of x36, x72,  x90, x180.  (In astronomy a well-resolved image is more important than a huge amount of magnification.) It also has a 6x24 Finderscope and an aluminium tray for holding eyeieces.

Celestron AstroMaster 90AZ

If you're looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster Series is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky.

The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae,

The unique alt-azimuth tripod head has a long handle which enables smooth effortless movement in altitude and azimuth, and the head moves similar to a fluid effect video or movie camera tripod head. Tracking the moon and planets at higher powers, or even following a moving bird is possible due to the design of the tripod head. Owners of Celestron CG5 mounts or Celestron SE 4, 5 and 6 telescopes can mount their tube assemblies onto the Astromaster tripod head, by simply removing the Astromaster 90 refractor tube assembly first, and then sliding the SE 4, 5 or 6 tube assemblies into the *dovetail holder on the Astromaster tripod. Similarly, a 90mm Astromaster refractor can be mounted on any CG5 equatorial mount. At such a low cost, the Astromaster 90 AZ makes an excellent second telescope, because of its optical performance, and adaptability of the tripod head.

The Astro Master Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.

"Our first test on the Sky-Watcher Explorer-130 was to check the collimation of the mirrors, which we found were well aligned. This scope has one of the largest mirrors in its price range, which is a great asset because it means it can gather more light...Optically, the quality of the field of view while studying the star Altair was very good using the supplied 25mm eyepiece. The star remained sharp across 80 per cent of the view, with only slight distortion close to the field edges….Taking everything into account, this telescope made observing the night sky enjoyable and relatively hassle free….great views coupled with ease of use."

For beginners who like a simple life (and those who hate mechanical things and computers) the Dobsonian is ideal - very user-friendly.  It has a large aperture so you see a relatively big image, and all you have to do is point it in the right direction.  As the object moves, you just give it a bit of a nudge to catch up!
